After day one of the art room flip

Here are some photos showing what the room looks like at the end of today.  The general idea that I have, is to have a horse shoe like arrangement of student work desks in the center of the room, my desk along with my computer and office supplies will be at the "front" of the room, on the left with the dry erase board in the center and to the right will be an elementary reading area.  The reading area will be the location where all of my K, 1st and 2nd grade students will report to upon entering the class.  They will all hit the rug and I can explain the objectives for the day, read a book that ties into an assignment, or review what we covered in the last art class.
At the back of the room, between the sink and the door, will be the pottery wheel area.  My goal is to have 2 pottery wheels for the high school students to use on a rotation basis during our pottery unit.  Between the two pottery wheels will be a metal shelving unit where students can place freshly thrown work so it can dry.
I am so thankful for and want to acknowledge the Climax Springs custodial team. They did a wonderful job cleaning, painting the walls and finishing the floor in the room.  I greatly appreciate all of their hard work.

Slightly changed.  Slightly the same.  After some playing around with arrangements and locations, I found that some items left where they originally were was the best arrangement.

Elementary reading area.  This area will have a selection of classic and contemporary books geared for elementary students.  I will also bring in an aquarium to house the class pet.  He'll be located on the wooden table in front of the window so he can get plenty of sun.  What is he?  You'll have to check back in to find out.

Here is the front of the room.  I plan to have my desk on the left wall and the elementary reading area on the right wall.

I have started reorganizing the art room and to my amazement some areas look almost the same as they had before, with Ms. Zimmerman.  I had not referred to the old "clean up" photos until today and was surprised that the cabinet area with the color wheel painting was arranged similarly to the way it was before.  Great minds must think alike. :)

This is the room with all of the furnature and supplies returned.  The custodians tried to put everything in the center of the room and on surrounding counters so that I can arrange it how I'd like.  The room doesn't look so roomy anymore. :)



 

Climax Art Room Renovation

Early in June, I visited my new classroom at Climax Springs to find that it was being prepped for cleaning, painting and waxing. Prior to my employment, Ms. Emmy Zimmerman, was the art teacher and she has done a wonderful job for the last 7 years. I know that I have big shoes to fill.

The art room will probably not be this clean until this time next year.  It looks so open and roomy.

The art room entrance was the home to an under water mini mural.  I do not believe Ms. Zimmerman even knew how long it was there or why such subject matter was chosen. 

I am excited to add images of the "flipped" art room.  I know this art room has welcomed many students in the past and I hope that the new art room is just as welcoming.  I hope current students who are familiar with the old look, like the new, flipped art room.
