Climax Springs students experience clay

I regret to note that my last post was in December, but I am finally getting new student work to post.  I will be adding updates to some past assignments as well as adding new work too.
Below you will find our Climax Springs art students working with clay.  Yes, actual clay.  For some, this is thier first time, for others it has been awhile since they have worked with this wonderful material.
I am introducing students to the various forms of hand building (pinch, coil, slab) as well as introducing my high school students to the pottery wheel.

 Every high school students will have an opportunity to work on the wheel for about 3 days in a row.  Students also have additional opportunities to work on the wheel during some open time such as before school, during lunch, during Pride Time and after school.  All of the high school students begin with 1 pound blocks of clay and as they master throwing, they can graduate to larger portions of clay.

Climax Springs Salutes our Veterans

As Veterans Day approaches, (Nov. 11th), Climax Springs salutes those who are currently serving and those who have served our country.  On Veterans Day, Climax Springs will host a lunch for any serviceperson who wishes to join us.
For the last three weeks, the elementary art students have been hard at work designing and creating art to honor our brave men and women.  Some of the students are working on paper lanterns that will be hung overhead in the lunchroom, placemats for the lunch tables, and other artwork to be displayed around the lunchroom.  We have even collaborated together with other core subjects (cross curricular) to design a large artwork to be unveiled at the Veterans lunch.

It's all Greek to the 3rd grade

This week 3rd grade students are learning about Greek culture, Greek pottery and symmetrical and asymmetrical balance .   Student studied different Greek forms, their purposes and designs and then created their own Greek form.  After students cut out their forms, they utilized found objects and created stamped designs for decorations.

 

5th grade color temperature artworks

This week the 5th grade class is finishing one assignment and is strating another.  Both assignments revolve around identifying and using color temperatures and the second assignment involves the begining of color mixing.  Students will begin exploring color washes and wet on wet techniques.

 

 

1st grade painting

This week our first grade students continue to learn about the birds eye view using a bowl or plate of apples on a table top.  Students are also learning how to paint and begin to mix paint using a wet on wet technique.  Other techniques we are covering are how to apply the paint to the paper, pull vs. push, easy strokes vs. scrubbing like a mop, how to clean the brush etc.
