Welcome to Fall 2016

August has arrived, (and has now passed), and the beginning of school is here.  The art students returned to a clean and semi rearranged art room.
Students in each art class began by completing a survey of prior knowledge.  The survey includes questions about art, artists and art history as well as questions related to math, science, social studies and pop culture.  The survey concludes by asking students to tell me a little bit about how they learn best.  I have designed questions that will let me know what kind of a learner they are such as visual, auditory, read-write, or kinesthetic.

This year will be an exciting year.  I plan to fold new lessons and projects into the curriculum and challenge my younger students by developing a elementary art club for students in grades 3-6.  This addition will mean that students in grades 3-12 will have an opportunity to experience art opportunities outside of the normal class.  The elementary art club will create awesome work for the school and community and will take an end of the year trip to Sedalia MO. and visit the Daum Museum of Art located on the State Fair Community College Campus.  The middle and high school art club will also be challenged to create awesome work for themselves, the school and the community and will participate in multiple community service events and will wrap the year up by taking a weekend trip to St. Louis MO.  2016-17 will be a creative year for everyone.  Check in often to keep up to date.  - Mr. Shawn Harris
